Check it out on Etsy.

Mousesnaps Mousetraps on TrendHunter.com

After returning home from my second capoeira class (which didn’t go all that bad, thank you) I got a very disturbing email from a coworker about someone who is making snap traps in boxes.  Well how cutesy cute.  What’s even more alarming -  they were on TrendHunter.com, which isn’t such a big deal except that the last time I checked, I was the reigning mousetrap PR princess.

So I responded as any reasonable person in need of a shower at midnight would – I wrote my own post on TrendHunter.com about Mousesnaps and our adorable hand-painted mousetraps.  And then I posted that article on Facebook and Twitter.  And now I’m writing a blog post about it.

Or in other words, I really lost my shit about it.

For example, I also wrote to my coworker and said, “First of all, THANK YOU FOR THE TIP.”  And then I proceeded to point out that anyone can submit a trend to the site and plastered Mousesnaps all over the place just to prove it.  For my grand finale, I called the other girl names and then debated myself about whether or not her traps would actually work.  Based entirely on a low-resolution image available online – I have decided that they will NOT.

As you’re reading this, you may think that I sound like a real lunatic.  And don’t worry, I thought the same thing about halfway through!  I even wrote to my co-worker “As I’m rereading this message (God forbid there’s a typo, that would be embarrassing!), I’m realizing that I should have followed the “First of all” up with “I’m a real nut job and that’ll be the last time anyone underestimates the amount of time I have on my crazy hands.”

But I’m not sure anyone underestimated that in the first place.  Afterall, I’ve spent the better part of the year painting mousetraps, reading business textbooks, learning how to swim, PLAYING DODGEBALL, and dabbling in online dating.

Something tells me people have been thinking I’ve been obviously bored since January.

Capoeira: Not quite as bad as Dodgeball

A few months back, I conducted a poll about whether capoeira was a good or bad idea.

Most people suggested that I just try it.

But one person said it was the “worst idea ever.”

First of all, thanks for the hate.

Second, I took a class in it tonight and I hate to admit it, but you’re probably right.

I’m going to give myself at least another week to prove you wrong.

Yesterday, I spent the better part of my evening trying to track down a bike to use in this weekend’s triathlon.

Nothing like waiting until the last minute, I know, but I was really counting on using my brother’s bike if worse came to worst. What I wasn’t counting on was his bike actually being a glorified death trap.

“Oh sure you can use it,” he told me. “I’ll just put the seat down. It only has one gear though, is that ok?”

I didn’t have many other options at the time, so I figured it would have to be.

“OH!! And this is important – are you listening? You can’t stop pedaling AT ALL!”

I said, “And why the heck not?”

“Oh you just can’t! The pedals are connected to the chain, so you can’t stop. Oh, and if you pedal backwards, you actually go backwards.”

Now. I don’t know much about bikes, but I know enough to realize that that’s not normal. Either that, or my brother actually lives in a cartoon.

I said, “I have to ask – does it even have brakes?”

“Of course it does,” he told me. “Don’t be ridiculous.”

I wouldn’t dream of it.

In the end, I settled on borrowing a friend if a friend’s. I probably owe her my life.

Mousesnaps Mousetraps on The Abundant Artist Again

Mousesnaps’ Etsy selling tips have been posted over at The Abundant Artist – Enjoy!!  We may or may not know a thing or two about Internet selling.  We DO know a lot about hand-painted mousetraps.

And when you’re done reading that, perhaps you can put together some quick tips about how to successfully apply primer to a wall and answer a text message without hitting your head.  Because I need them.

Email Rookies

This past weekend, someone from the MS Society sent a seemingly innocuous email about getting ready for this year’s City to Shore bike race. Unfortunately, she made the mistake of sending the message to all participants instead of just the first-time riders – and she had the nerve to address us collectively as “rookies.” The horror.

This touched off a firestorm of email activity, resulting in no less than 237 messages, a large percentage of which seemed to take more issue with being called a rookie as opposed to a clogged inbox. Regardless, I haven’t been this entertained by the Internet since my eHarmony days.

Highlights:

  • Please Please Please Remove me – to mnay emails and I am NOT a rookie rider!!!!!
  • This is my Second E-mail to you guys. I am not a Rookie Rider. Not sure where you got this from? But…….This will be my 15Year Riding. 2X PA Dutch! That reminds Me,I need to send in my info for my 3rd Plaque!
  • TAKE ME OFF THIS LIST TO MANY EMAILS????????????????????????????
  • You are all morons… I hate you all.

So that – multiplied by about 60.

But none of them – not a single one – compares with the person who is apparently so serious about cycling that he has presumably spent actual time creating (or re-creating) a bicycle rider out of keyboard characters.

I’m also not a rookie rider…I rode City to the Shore in 2007

Please take me off this list

I’m still on the list. For entertainment’s sake.

Breast stroke: Half as effective, twice as easy

Did you know that in addition to not really being able to swim the 862 yards required for the upcoming triathlon, I also don’t own a bike?  This, of course, correctly implies that I haven’t really ridden an actual bike in quite a few years.  Oh, and just for good measure, when I checked the triathlon web site today, I found out that we’re actually supposed to ride 15 miles – not 12.

What I’m trying to say is that I don’t have any business doing a triathlon this year.   And I felt so strongly about it that tonight, during our workout in the New York Sports Club pool, I told my roommate that I was quitting.

“I’m serious,” I insisted.  “I can’t do it.”

She more or less told me to be quiet and do the breast stroke – which happens to be the best advice I’ve gotten since someone told me to put cherries in the freezer and pretend they’re popsicles.

The breast stroke might be slow, but it sure is easy.  Or put another way, it’s not a freestyle popsicle, but it gets the job done.

And right now, I’d rather do it the easy way than not do it at all.

On my cab ride to the airport today, the driver asked me where I was going.

As if he didn’t hear me when I got in, I said, “The airport!”

“I know that,” he said. “I mean, where are you flying to?”

Oh.

Portland! A weekend of fun, a few days of work and an Embassy Suites swimming pool throughout.

“I would have guessed California,” he said. “You look like you could be famous.”

I don’t think his compliment holds much merit because when I got here I was promptly told that my hair was “overwhelming my face” – but you never know, he could be reading Pest Control Technology.

Hello Mouses

This afternoon, I saw a headline on MSN.com championing “The World’s Ugliest Mice.”

The catch, of course, is that there’s no such thing as a cute mouse.  That and they’re actually talking about computer mice.

In related news, I would like to nominate the newest line of Mousesnaps as “The World’s Cutest Mouse[traps].”
