After returning home from my second capoeira class (which didn’t go all that bad, thank you) I got a very disturbing email from a coworker about someone who is making snap traps in boxes.  Well how cutesy cute.  What’s even more alarming -  they were on TrendHunter.com, which isn’t such a big deal except that the last time I checked, I was the reigning mousetrap PR princess.

So I responded as any reasonable person in need of a shower at midnight would – I wrote my own post on TrendHunter.com about Mousesnaps and our adorable hand-painted mousetraps.  And then I posted that article on Facebook and Twitter.  And now I’m writing a blog post about it. 

Or in other words, I really lost my shit about it.

For example, I also wrote to my coworker and said, “First of all, THANK YOU FOR THE TIP.”  And then I proceeded to point out that anyone can submit a trend to the site and plastered Mousesnaps all over the place just to prove it.  For my grand finale, I called the other girl names and then debated myself about whether or not her traps would actually work.  Based entirely on a low-resolution image available online – I have decided that they will NOT. 

As you’re reading this, you may think that I sound like a real lunatic.  And don’t worry, I thought the same thing about halfway through!  I even wrote to my co-worker “As I’m rereading this message (God forbid there’s a typo, that would be embarrassing!), I’m realizing that I should have followed the “First of all” up with “I’m a real nut job and that’ll be the last time anyone underestimates the amount of time I have on my crazy hands.”

But I’m not sure anyone underestimated that in the first place.  Afterall, I’ve spent the better part of the year painting mousetraps, reading business textbooks, learning how to swim, PLAYING DODGEBALL, and dabbling in online dating.

Something tells me people have been thinking I’ve been obviously bored since January.

While browsing in Barnes & Noble on Saturday, I happened to notice this:

Normally, I’d make a big thing about how someone could write a business start-up guide specifically for ”girls”  and how exactly that guide could be any different than that written for general audiences (which, last time I checked, included women…  or girls, if you will).  I’d also point out that the title is grammatically incorrect and then get really snarky and say that that if you’re going to put two business girls on the cover, they could at least be a little more stylish.

But I don’t have time to build all that out.

Instead, I just want to remind everyone that it is, in fact, 2009 and I think everyone should just get on board with that.

A few months back, I conducted a poll about whether capoeira was a good or bad idea.

Most people suggested that I just try it.

But one person said it was the “worst idea ever.”

First of all, thanks for the hate. 

Second, I took a class in it tonight and I hate to admit it, but you’re probably right.

I’m going to give myself at least another week to prove you wrong.

When Match.com says that they guarantee you’ll meet someone special in 6 months, I don’t doubt it.

I just think they should define “special.”

Aw.  Mousesnaps is in the cutest blog yet.  It makes sense since they’re the cutest mousetraps out there.

This past weekend, my mother – having noticed that I didn’t update my blog in several days – asked me if I began writing in a “secret blog” that she didn’t know about.

Fortunately, there’s no blogging conspiracy here at mytwothousandnine. I’ve just been sort of lazy about some things – like digging out an extension cord so that I can plug in my router and get Internet access at home. That really puts a damper on writing.

But other things are happening none-the-less. Like with Mousesnaps – Tuesday was a great day and we are thisclose to signing up our first online retailer!  It’s unsurprising – Mousesnaps are the prettiest hand-painted mousetraps in town and it’s about time someone appreciates.

And Physical Fitness Rampage 2009 hit new heights last week. Thanks to the contributions of family, friends and coworkers, I reached my fundraising goal for the City to Shore bike race in just two days!

So things are moving right along. And once I get my hands on 20 feet of electrical cord, I will be unstoppble.

Last night, I celebrated the passing of the triathlon by taking a walk after work, ordering the most fattening drink on the Starbucks menu and watching 48 Hours: True Mystery. Or in other words, I did the exact opposite of planning my evening around the pool schedule at the YMCA.

It was delightful. Especially when the barista at Starbucks asked me if I had a boyfriend. Twice. I thought he was going to ask me a third time when he ran out of the store and chased me down the sidewalk, but it turns out that he just didn’t notice that the gift card I had used to buy my drink didn’t have enough money on it and I owed him $1.89.

I don’t have a boyfriend, but I don’t have any interest in dating the overly forward or the seemingly desperate. But at the same time, I don’t mind if they want to appreciate the obvious benefits of Physical Fitness Rampage 2009.

So in the end, the swim portion of the triathlon was canceled due to bacteria and debris in the water – which is kind of funny since I’m pretty sure the Schuylkill River is chock full of an unhealthy amount of bacteria and debris every day – but what do I know?

The event organizers really did their best to try and let us swim. At the orientation on Saturday, they even announced that they were trying to clean the portion we’d be swimming in with giant skimmers – and as much as I would have liked to see that for my own entertainment, I didn’t think it sounded like it was going to work. Unfortunately for everyone, it didn’t.

Instead, the event was turned into a run-bike-run duathlon – and it was going shockingly well for me until a massive thunderstorm hit and they cleared the course during the second run.

It was uncontrollable turn of events, but disappointing none the less.

Especially since my time for the first two legs were pretty great and I had plenty of energy left to finish. 

Oh well.  Better luck next year.  For now, I’ll just be happy that I learned to swim, I ran the first leg at a pace of 8/minutes a mile and managed through the bike portion despite having not been on one in at least ten years.

I didn’t actually do a triathlon.  But I could have.  And that will just have to be good enough.
